Julia's students perform at prestigious Economic Forum event :::
Julia's
students and others from the Special School for Gifted Children provided a wonderful
live open-air performance in the Mikhailovsky Gardens on June 18th, as part of
the closing ceremonies of the Saint Petersburg Economic Forum, on behalf of the
Governor of Saint Petersburg.
A
piano trio from Julia's class - Polina Bolotova (violin), Aram Yagubyan (cello)
and Nikita Gololobov (piano) - performed Arno Babadjanyan's Piano Trio in F sharpminor
(3rd mvt.), Gaspar Cassado's Requiebros for cello and piano, and the Introduction
and Rondo Capriccioso for violin and piano by Saint-Saens.

Special performance for Julia's students at the Philharmonic Hall :::
Fresh
from their success in Tallinn, the Piano Quartet from Julia's class will perform
the 3rd and 4th movements from Dvorak's E flat major Piano Quartet, Op.87
on March 26th at the Glinka Small Philharmonic Hall in a concert recognising the
best Saint Petersburg conservatory music school students.

Audience prize for Julia's students in Tallinn :::
A
piano quartet from Julia's class have won the Audience Prize at the 3rd International
Festival/Competition "IN CORPORE" 2010 in Tallinn, Estonia. The
Piano Quartet comprising of Kishta Badmaeva (violin), Arseny Yurev (viola) Andrei
Efimovsky (cello) and Maria Derevyagina (piano) won the prize after performing
movements from Mozart's G minor Piano Quartet (K.478) and Dvorak's E
flat major Piano Quartet, Op.87.

Ju-s-Ta join Tal and Groethuysen to celebrate piano duo transcriptions from across
the world :::
Julia
with piano partner Tatiana Brizhaneva (Ju-s-Ta) will perform at the 5th
International Festival "Baltic duos" in Saint-Petersburg this month, sharing
the stage with other leading piano ensembles from Russia and throughout the world.
The
theme of the 5th festival is "In the duo's transcriptions' world" and Ju-s-Ta
will perform 4 pieces from Bubelnikov's Concert Suite "Carmen" for two
pianos to themes from the Opera by Bizet.
Yaara
Tal and Andreas Groethuysen will be performing J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations
in a version for 2 pianos by Rheinberger / Reger which they recently released
on Sony Classical.
The
Festival runs from February 19th to the 21st at the Glazunov Hall. Ju-s-Ta will
perform on February 19th. The concerts starts at 7pm.

Julia's youngest students win 1st prize in Saint Petersburg :::
Julia's
students have just taken the first prize at the International Festival/Competition
of Children and Youth's Art "WINDOW TO EUROPE" which took place in Saint-Petersburg
from February 6th until the 15th. Sofia
Saharova (violin) and Mikhail Marishev (piano) won their first prize in the chamber
music category for ages 9-12. The
competition consisted of two rounds; in the first round, they played Haydn's Sonata
in C major and Glazunov's Reflection. For the final round, they played
Schnittke's Suite in the Ancient Style. | |

Ju-s-Ta takes second prize in Vologda :::
Julia
has had success in Vologda with piano partner Tatiana Brizhaneva.
Ju-s-Ta
took part in the A. G. Bahchiev Russian Piano Duo Competition at the end of April
and took the second prize.
The
competition consisted of two rounds. In the first round, they performed Mozart's
Sonata in D major for two pianos (K448) before presenting Variations
on a Theme of Beethoven (Op.35) and Danse Macabre (arrangement
for piano duo, Op.40) by Saint-Saens. Their
final round programme was made up of Rachmaninov Symphonic Dances (Op.45 No.1),
Sketches written by Gavrilin, who was a Vologdan composer, before finishing
with the two piano arrangement of Ravel's Valse.
They performed
Saint-Saens' Danse Macabre at the prize-winners' gala concert which took
place in the Gavrilin Philharmonic Hall on April 30th. | Tania

Student success in Tallinn :::
A
piano trio
in Julia's class has won first prize at "In Corpere", the International
Youth Chamber Music Festival Competition in Tallinn, Estonia. The trio, featuring
Polina Bolitova (violin), Aram Yagubyan (cello), and Nikita Gololobov (piano)
won with an exceptional performance of Rachmaninov's Trio Elegiac No.1 in G
minor.

Julia
is featured playing three of Beethoven's chamber works in Phil Grabsky's second
composer documentary, the 'follow up' to the hugely successful In Search of
Mozart.

Students win in Saint Petersburg :::
Two
seventeen year-old students in Julia's class, Alexander Hirny (violin) and Sofia-Maria
Suvorova (piano), have won first prize in the chamber music section of "Window
to Europe", the International Festival-Competition of Youth in Saint Petersburg
which took place from February 2nd-9th. They came first with a complete performance
of Grieg's Sonata in F major, Op.8 and the first movement of Mendelssohn's
Sonata in F major (1838).

Julia's students win in Holland :::
One
year on, and another group of Julia's students have had success at the Charles
Hennen Concours 2008 in Heerlen, Holland.
Trio
"Poetica" took the First Prize in Category A. The trio, made up of
Alexey Osipov
(violin / 14), Andrey Efimovsky (cello / 16), and Maria Derevjagina (piano / 16)
played Rachmaninov and Mendelssohn for the Competition.

Julia's students have prize-winning success in Holland :::
Julia's
students, Trio "Ad Libitum", have been awarded a special "Prize
of Encouragement" at the Charles Hennen Concours 2007 in Heerlen, Holland.
The young members of the trio - Andrey Telkov
(piano / 15), Alisa Lebedeva (violin / 15), and German Tsakulov (viola / 17) -
were taking part in Category B, a category for participants up to an average and
maximum age of 22 and 28 years respectively. They performed works by Mendelssohn
and Brahms. |

::: London debut :::
Unfortunately,
Julia has had to cancel her March 3rd London debut at LSO St. Luke's due to a
badly timed case of chicken pox. She was due to perform Beethoven's Triple
Concerto with the London Charity Orchestra under William Carslake with soloists
Alexander Sitkovetsky and Richard Harwood.
Austrian
pianist Gottlieb Wallisch has kindly agreed to replace her at one weeks notice.

Success for Julia's students :::
A
duo from Julia's chamber music class at Saint Petersburg's Special School for
Gifted Children have taken the second prize in the international competition "Window
in to Europe". Polina Bolotova (violin) and Nikita Gololobov (piano) performed
repertoire by Mozart, Dvorak, Shostakovich, and Rakov during the two round competition. Nikita
was successful last year in the IV All Russian Chamber Competition "Tradition
and Contemporaneity" when he received both a diploma and the special prize,
whilst performing with a different violinist. A trio group from Julia's class
took the first prize. | |
